`fall into me -michael- « Thread Started on Mar 27, 2009, 1:50am »
Summer didn’t hear the alarm clock go off but instead she felt Boggart start to move around on the bed. She reprimanded him firmly, but not angrily, and turned off her alarm clock. She did not want to get up this morning, or at least not this early, but she knew it would be important. He had been amazing on her birthday and he deserved the same thing. It was twenty minutes later when Summer finally managed to pull herself out of bed and drag herself over to her bathroom. She had decided to wear a fitted nightgown the night before just so she wouldn’t have to change that morning and still look good, hopefully sexy, for Michael. He deserved that. She put on very little makeup, but enough to make her look beautiful in her eyes, and put her curly hair up on the top of her head. After making sure she didn’t look bad at least she then went to Michael’s room. He wouldn’t be up for a few minutes yet so she didn’t bother knocking. Once Boggart followed her into the room she laid down beside him on his bed and kissed his lips, letting it linger so it would wake him up.
“Happy birthday, baby,” she said softly into his ear after she knew he was awake before she nibbled on his earlobe gently. “Thought you may want a little fun before work,” she teased, her hands running down his body softly before allowing her lips to find his again and sliding her tongue into his mouth, if he had no objections to this of course. She wasn’t exactly sure how long their intimacy lasted, but she ended up throwing his alarm clock across the room when it went off because it had interrupted them. She wasn’t even sure if he ever had to use the clock, his internal clock was ridiculously good, but that wasn’t important at the time. It managed to get Summer a little hot, she couldn’t deny but that happened from time to time of course and she was sure it happened to him too. For a while afterwards they cuddled and then they decided he should probably go off and shower so he could get ready for work. She told him she was going to stay in his bed for a while, but as soon as he left the room she did as well. His birthday surprise wasn’t finished yet.
Once she was downstairs she started to make him breakfast. She wasn’t exactly sure what she was doing, but she had seen Michael do it plenty of times so she was hoping she wouldn’t mess it up too much. She made some scrambled eggs, since she wasn’t sure how to make the over easy ones she liked, and some pancakes with some bacon, which she actually decided to make for him, even though she was very reluctant to touch it. She split the food between two plates, giving Michael all the bacon of course. She was very pressed for time. She hadn’t even had a chance to make the coffee or pour the juice before he came downstairs. She got both ready before joining him at the table. “You have any plans for tonight?” she asked. She wanted to make sure neither of their plans were ruined because they didn’t correspond with the other’s.
After breakfast and a brief goodbye Summer decided to go back to bed. She was just so tired. She slept for a few hours then went to shower. She fixed herself up to leave the house in jeans and a nice blouse with a pair of boots over her feet. She then drove to her friend’s house, where Michael’s birthday present was being kept. She was shocked she had managed to get Cathleen, who she met at the new group support session she joined when they moved when her therapist suggested it and Michael supported it, to take the young puppy for a week, but she was happy because it just meant more to her to give it to him on his actual birthday. Ever since Michael had started to work again Summer had been going to the animal shelter close to their home to look at the puppies. She didn’t see anything she liked for a while, but then she saw the young female she just loved, and Boggart got along with, which was of course quite important. Cathleen had been with her and agreed to take the puppy for her until Michael’s birthday.
She took the puppy back home in her little crate and then, with Cathleen’s help, took the puppy back upstairs to her room and put her in the crate. Cathleen then stayed around to help Summer with dinner as much as she could. Summer did everything she could to hide the surprise from Michael. She paid for the puppy in cash and had planned to tell him it was for her prescriptions if he asked why she took the money out in the first place. She had hid the ingredients for dinner and the recipe she had her grandmother give to her as well as she could. She just wanted this to be special, especially with everything that was happening with his parents. He needed a night to forget everything and just think about how special their relationship was. She was so worried about him already and she really wanted to make sure he was going to be all right. This wasn’t an easy thing to go through and he needed all the support he could get.
They finished with the dinner of Cornish hens, or at least got them in the oven when Cathleen had to leave to go to class. They said their goodbyes and she went on her way. Summer checked on the puppy one last time and took her outside and let Boggart meet her when they were on Boggart’s ground to make sure things went alright. They did, which she was thankful for because she didn’t want Michael to be worried about it when he came home. When it was getting close to the time when he could get home she put the puppy back in her crate and then went back downstairs. She turned on some classical music, an orchestra with a flute solo; she used to play the flute after all. She didn’t want Michael to hear the puppy’s whines before it was time to reveal the present to him. She then sat in the living room, a book in her hands and waited for her boyfriend to come home.

Michael couldn’t be happier with how work was going during his first few weeks. The staff was very friendly and he hadn’t run into any major issues with students or anyone else so it was going quite well. The last thing he needed was to be miserable at his new job, but so far he was liking it better than Faith Academy and that was a very good thing. The principal was a very respectable person and Michael was glad to have the man as his boss. It was refreshing to be able to work and not have to worry about hiding his relationship with Summer or worry about what people might think about it. He could now see her at work whenever she came to visit while having little to worry about. Sure, they still got a few looks as they always did and he was sure some of his students would talk about it if they got bored enough, but he really didn’t mind it just so long as they didn’t take it too far. For now things seemed to be working out and his salary was a bit more than what he had been making at Faith, which was surprising, but it certainly helped improve the situation with Summer and him. Worrying about finances simply wasn’t something they needed on their plate right now.
It hadn’t been difficult to stick to a good sleeping pattern so that he could be well-rested for work. There were some nights in which thoughts of his parents’ divorce would keep him up for a bit, but he wasn’t having too much trouble with that lately. Michael was in a light slumber when he felt Summer’s lips on his own. His eyes slowly opened as Summer broke the kiss. He blinked a few times to allow his eyes to focus and he smiled upon hearing her speak. “Thanks, baby,” he said softly. This was a very pleasant surprise for him. He was so used to waking up before her and now it was apparent she had made an effort to change that, if only for that one morning. He grinned after hearing her next words and was greeted with another kiss shortly after. He returned the kiss, bringing a hand up to tuck some loose strands of hair behind her ear. He felt her tongue in his mouth and with that he pressed his own against hers, wrestling it for a while. This was the best wake-up call he’d ever gotten by far.
He was ready to call-in for work after a while of fooling around, but in the end he knew that he couldn’t do that. He would end up feeling guilty all day for doing so, even though it was his birthday. He wasn’t sure what it was, but he always felt bad when he called in for work and he was also still working on making a really good impression at the academy he was teaching at. Although he was rather reluctant to do so, he managed to drag himself away from the bed with Summer and started getting ready for work. He missed being able to spend a morning with Summer without having to worry about being anywhere, but it was obvious that Michael really needed to be working so all of those things had to be limited to the weekend or holidays. It was hard, but he was slowly starting to get used to the new routine. His first week had been especially difficult. It was nearly impossible to not think about Summer while he was at work, but his focus had definitely improved as time went on.
Once he came downstairs, he found Summer and gave her a small kiss on the lips. “Thanks for making breakfast,” he said with a smile and touched her arm gently before making his way to the table to take a seat. He knew Summer was capable of making a decent meal if she wanted to and he certainly appreciated it when she did. He never insisted on her making a meal for him since he clearly enjoyed it more than she did and he always liked to be the one to do things for her, which had become apparent by now. They were really good to each other. He had never known Summer to not offer her help even if it involved her doing something she wasn’t fond of and vice versa. Neither of them were especially lazy and so things worked out great between them. He shook his head when she spoke, looking up from his plate. He never made plans for his own birthday. It had been a while since he had done anything special on his birthday, which he was okay with, but a part of him found it a little disappointing. As for this year? Well, he really didn’t care what they did as long as he was able to spend the entire evening with Summer. That was all he wanted.
Once they finished breakfast, he released a deep sigh and gave Summer a kiss. “I guess I have to leave now…” he said, frowning towards her in a bit of a playful way. He smiled shortly after and bid her goodbye before finally walking out the door. There was no telling when he’d just have one of those days in which he would absolutely have to stay home with her. Chances are it wouldn’t be soon simply because he couldn’t risk it with his new job, but it was likely to happen at some point, wasn’t it? There were days in which he couldn’t believe how crazy he was about her, but he wouldn’t change anything about it. He loved the feeling he got every time he saw her face and every time he held her in his arms. It was a feeling of bliss that he figured many people weren’t lucky enough to experience, which was probably why few people could really understand their relationship.
It was a very long day at work. All he could think about was wanting to be home with Summer that day. Who wanted to spend their birthday at work, anyway? He was fortunate enough to have co-workers that cared enough to get him a cake and throw a small party in the teacher’s lounge. He was getting along really well with most of the staff and he was thankful for that. It helped to have other teachers he could discuss things with and who could help him get to know the school better. It seemed to take an eternity, but the final bell finally sounded to indicate the end of his last class. They had been working on a short worksheet which they were to turn in at the end of class. After collecting the sheets of paper, he had a few students that wanted to ask him a few questions. He ended up leaving about twenty minutes later than he had wanted to, but what kind of teacher would he be if he bolted out the door the minute the bell rang? He liked helping his students and it was his responsibility to make sure they understood the material.
A little while later, he was on his way home and was very excited to spend some time with Summer for his birthday. It took him about ten minutes to make it home and he parked the car in the driveway. He put on the parking brake and turned off the engine before grabbing his keys and bag and heading towards the front door. He could hear the faint sound of music before opening the door and was soon greeted by the full sound of a classical piece that Summer listened to every once and a while. He set his bag by the door and his keys on the table by the couch on his way towards her. “hey, I’m here. How’s your day been?” he asked her, an excited smile on his face. He had no clue whether or not she had something planned, but he would be just fine if all they did was sat around eating cake for the rest of the night. Michael wasn’t hard to please even if it was his birthday. Whatever Summer wanted to do was always perfectly fine with him.

Summer was very happy that Michael seemed to enjoy her wake up call, but then again, what guy wouldn’t? Michael was very respectful and obviously more patient than Summer would ever except any man to be but that didn’t mean he didn’t enjoy the physical parts of the relationship that he did get. Honestly, Summer thought that she may try a little harder to make sure he was satisfied when it came to that and see if there was anything she could do in the regard that he would like and she would be comfortable with of course but he hadn’t really complained yet. Anyway, after today he would probably been looking forward to any other birthdays he would spend with her. She wouldn’t be getting him a puppy every year but she was sure she’d be able to think of interesting things to get him for presents and if she couldn’t he had to enjoy just being the center of her attention for the day. He deserved it, after all. He never asked for much from her and took care of her very well so one day a year she could reverse the roles a little bit, right?
Summer would never really mind if Michael decided he had to stay home with her one day, well, any day except today. That would have totally ruined all of her plans and she had worked hard to make this all perfect, and giving a live gift wasn’t easy. Normally she’d love it if he wanted to spend the day with her as long as it didn’t mess with his job security of course, for her day to day life was very boring and it was starting to get to her. She had to start a volunteer job or start a garden for the rest of the school year while Michael was working just to give her something to do. Next year she’d be going to school herself so wouldn’t have to sit around the house all day like the housewife she knew she could never be happy being, but for the rest of this year she had to find something to do. Well, for now she would spend some of the time taking care of the new puppy she was sure, but she couldn’t do that all day either.
Summer returned the kiss she got when he came down for breakfast and then nodded in response to his words. Even she had to admit, her cooking was getting better, even though it sadly wasn’t great. She couldn’t make those omelets he made for her whenever he made breakfast for the both of them and some of the stuff he made for dinner had her staring at the plate for hours trying to figure out how he did it. She was sure that tonight dinner would have been slaughtered if Cathleen and her grandmother hadn’t been there to help out but she really was trying. Michael would not deal with her being the spoilt little girl she grew up as, she was sure of that. When he was gone at work she would find herself cleaning or doing other house chores without a second thought. Then again, it never got too dirty with just the two of them living there. It was mostly dog hair she had to be careful with.
Summer had thought about going to visit him at work that day, but she simply didn’t seem to have the time. She knew when his free hours were and would often show up at his lunch hour just to say hi and eat lunch with him. She liked it there. Everyone was very kind to her and didn’t ask too many questions. There were times when she knew the students thought she was a new student as well, but she just forgot about that. If Michael were to show that he didn’t like her presence she would always stop. After all, he couldn’t like his students talking and she wasn’t sure what his coworkers said about their relationship when she wasn’t there, but he still seemed to like her coming so she would continue to come. She liked it too. She couldn’t believe how happy he made her on a day to say basis. She was sure she would fall apart if they ever broke up, but she wasn’t planning on that happening for any reason. She would do just about anything for him.
Michael was later than she had expected and was actually a little unhappy about that, but she could never know when he was going to be home. Obviously, it was never too late but if he had to meet with a parent or had a meeting or whatever else he’d be later. She was always looking forward to hearing his car coming up the drive way. Her music was a little loud to hear him this time, but once the door opened a smile came over her features. “Hey babe, it was all right. Busy,” she answered, looking up at him as she put her bookmark in place. “What about you, have a nice day? Do anything special for your birthday?” she questioned as she stood up. She gave him a gentle kiss on the lips, her usually greeting when he came home from work in the morning. She felt it would keep their relationship strong. She had met so many couples who would move in together or got married and get bored of each other in the end and stop telling each other how important they were and they grow apart. She wasn’t going to let that happen.
When she pulled away and gently rubbed her hand up and down his arm before leading him into the kitchen. “So, I tried making dinner for you,” she glanced to look at him for a second, “don’t worry, Cathleen came over to help,” she added with a giggle. Michael knew Cathleen fairly well by now. There was even one night when she stayed the night at their house because she accidently locked herself out of her apartment. Cathleen was generally comfortable about Michael as long as he didn’t suddenly touch her or anything, but she wasn’t as bad as Summer was, which had to be good. “But I think you should be the one to say when it’s done, ‘cause I can never tell,” she giggled. She walked over to the oven and opened the door so the smell could waft out. This was one of her favorites and she hoped Michael enjoyed it too.
“I wanted to wait, but… I’m gonna go get your present,” she walked past him, her hand brushing his chest gently as she walked past. “Wait here, I’ll be right back,” she said, looking back. Summer made her way upstairs, Boggart at her heels, and went into her room. She took the blonde colored puppy out of its crate and carried her to the bed. She then tied a red bow around her collar so she would look something like a present and with that she carried the puppy back downstairs, closing her door behind her. She went back to the kitchen, talking once she was in speaking range. “I felt bad for the poor thing,” she said, glancing up at Michael with a smile across her face, really hoping he liked his surprise.

It would have been a nice surprise if Summer had come to visit him that day, but he didn’t mind either way. He never expected her to come visit him, which was why he was so pleasantly surprised when she did. Okay, so there were some instances in which they would plan to have lunch together, but most of the time Michael preferred to let Summer decide whether or not she would visit him on any given day or not. He hardly wanted her to get sick of coming to the school each day just to pay him a visit. Besides, it probably wouldn’t be good for his work to have her there any more than she was. He could get easily distracted when Summer came to visit him. He always gave her his undivided attention and so grading papers and whatnot never seemed to be an option. During his first few weeks, Michael hadn’t been swamped by too much and so it was easy for him to set things aside for Summer, but he figured that would change once he got more situated and was able to go to work for an entire school year rather than half a semester. It was a good time to start because he basically just picked up where another teacher had left off and he felt he was fitting in just fine there.
Michael would be lying if the subject of their relationship didn’t come up every once and a while. Once his co-workers felt they knew him well enough, they started asking him some personal questions and he would always answer honestly. He wouldn’t go into any details, of course, but he made sure they knew how special Summer was to him and that it wasn’t just some fling or whatever else they might be thinking. Anyone who had observed them together would know that they meant a lot to one another. He had received a few comments about how cute they were together from a couple of fellow teachers, which always put a smile on his face. It was such a great feeling to know that he wasn’t being judged by everyone and that there actually were a few people out there who were able to ignore the age differences and see what a successful couple they were.
It made Michael a little curious to hear her say that her day had been busy. He hadn’t known about any plans she had that day, but after a moment of thought he guessed that it had something to do with his birthday. He would never ask her to go through a lot of trouble for him, but he also knew he couldn’t stop her once she decided she wanted to do something. The same went for him. When it came to doing something special for Summer, there wasn’t anything she could say to stop him from doing it if he knew she would like it. Most things were usually a surprise anyway so it usually didn’t make a difference. He couldn’t count how many times he had sent her flowers on a random day just because he felt like it. He didn’t do it too often so as to not ruin the element of surprise. To him, it was just a small reminder to her of how much he cared about her and that he was thinking about her. Anything to put a smile on her face was reason enough when it came to his random romantic gestures.
“Yeah, it was fine. Some of the teachers threw a small party for me so that was nice,” he responded with a smile. He hadn’t thought he’d be popular enough at this point for them to do anything for his birthday, but it was certainly a pleasant surprise. It helped his confidence about working there; he seemed to be well-liked thus far. He returned the kiss he received, which he always looked forward to when he came home from work. It didn’t matter if Mike’s day at work was good or bad, Summer always seemed to be able to cheer him up and melt away his stress every time. He followed her into the kitchen and was admittedly surprised to hear that she had made dinner, but he wasn’t about to complain. A small chuckle was released when she mentioned that her friend had helped. He peeked into the oven when she opened it so that he could see what she was cooking. “Looks great. I’ll try and make a good guess at it,” he said in response to her comment. He never really cooked chicken that often and had never made this particular dish so they’d just have to check it every-so-often and determine whether or not it was cooked well enough, but obviously not over-cooked.
“Waiting’s no fun,” he replied with a grin on his face. Now that she had mentioned it, he was immediately curious as to what she had gotten for him. He waited anxiously as she went upstairs to get his gift. As soon as she had come back down with a puppy in her arms, Michael’s jaw dropped and his eyes widened a bit. This hadn’t been what he was expecting at all. He had been meaning to get a dog for a very long time, but had never gotten around to it. As she walked closer to him, a big smile found its way onto Michael’s lips once he got past the initial surprise of seeing his gift. “You...you got me a puppy?” he said redundantly. He reached a hand out to scratch the puppy behind the ear, admiring the canine for a moment before looking back up at Summer. He leaned in and placed a brief kiss on her lips. “You’re amazing,” he said softly, smiling towards her. “Can I hold her? Or is it a he?” he asked, not sure what the dog’s sex was, but he remembered mentioning something about getting Boggart a girlfriend. The thought always made him laugh.
He waited for Summer to approve before taking the dog in his arms. “You are so adorable!” he said to the pup, holding her up for a moment to look at the dog’s face before holding her securely in his arms again. “I feel spoiled,” he said, looking over towards Summer with a grin. He never thought that getting a puppy could be so exciting. It was absolutely adorable and now seemed like as good a time as any to get another dog. “What about him? Is he okay with this?” he asked, jerking his head slightly in the direction of Boggart. Michael knew they had to make sure not to neglect Boggart while they were taking care of the new puppy. Even though Michael doubted Bogg would do any harm, it would never be fair to give the puppy all the attention when it came to play time. “Did you name her yet?” He wasn’t sure whether or not Summer had taken the liberty of naming the dog. Michael didn’t mind either way because he knew her ideas for a name would be just as good if not better than what he could come up with, but it would be nice to be able to decide on a name together.

Summer had to admit that she was often a little worried that Michael now spent a lot of time around other women while he was working, but in the back of her mind she knew she had nothing to worry about. Summer knew that Michael loved her and would never do anything to hurt her. She supposed it was just natural to always wonder about those things a little bit in your unconscious mind. It was just hard when she saw the attractive teachers he worked with when she came to visit him. She always felt the need to lay her claim to him, grab his arm or give him a kiss, so everyone knew he was off limits. He was a very attractive man and though she did trust him to stay away she had to make sure everyone did as well. She did hope Michael realized that she did trust him and was just being a little insecure but she was sure he would say something if he got annoyed with her actions. At least she wasn’t worried about the students, right? She knew that he wasn’t generally interested in younger girls; she was just a special case. Now, if he did start spending as much time with another female student as he spent with her she would start worrying but she didn’t think that was going to be something they needed to fret about.
When Michael told her that a part had been thrown for him it was a little shocking to hear, but she was happy about it. She didn’t want him to hate working where he did and his coworkers seemed to be very kind to him already. It was important to get along with the people you were forced to be around every day. Summer always looked forward to the time when Michael came home from work and she always tried to be home when he got there to greet him and make sure his day hadn’t gone too badly. He never really complained to her about it, which she wouldn’t mind because she was sure he would need to vent from time to time, but she also wasn’t going to continue to ask about it. He hadn’t yet taken his anger out on her again and she didn’t want to push him to the point where he did, though she didn’t really think she had to worry about that. After his first outburst he seemed to just know to keep his temper under control. It was important and even if he apologized it just didn’t make everything better, which he found out the first time.
When he complained playfully about waiting she turned to look at him and gave a small shake of her head. “That’s not your present,” she teased, unable to stop herself. She knew he would know that she had no plans for any type of physical intimacy as a present for him. Sure, a fun wake up call she was fine with but she wasn’t suddenly going to have sex with him because he was now twenty-six instead of twenty-five, but he’d never think that either. She had made it clear to him that she didn’t really want that night planned and hoped for it to seem natural, something they both wanted and were able to just read each other. She knew it may not work that way, but that was what she hoped for. Okay, she had to tease him about it a little, but that just proved she was getting more comfortable with the topic. The thought that Michael, obviously, wanted to have sex with her at some point no longer made her heart jump and if the conversation was brought up because of a movie or something they were watching she didn’t change the topic as soon as she could. The more comfortable Summer got with things, step by step of course, the sooner they could take their relationship to the next step and though the idea scared Summer a little she was also excited for when that day would come.
After she came back down with the puppy in her arms a wide smile came across her lips at Michael’s reaction. When he spoke she forced a surprised look and shook her head. “No, I got you the bow, the puppy’s mine,” she couldn’t keep the look over her face for long though before he melted back into a happy smile. She was really hoping he was going to like this and wasn’t set on picking out his own dog or something. When he reached up to pet the dog Summer looked down at his hand, which was fairly close to her chest and she found herself not minding whatsoever. They had gotten to the point where he could play with her breasts or ass a bit as they were making out, as long as he stopped if she got uncomfortable, which he always did. It was usually a fifty-fifty shot to see if she would be alright with it that day, but she did like him to at least give it a try from time to time. She liked having proof that he was interested in her physically. She was often reminded of him love, which was great, but they couldn’t have a relationship without showing their love physically and a little lust for the person you also loved never hurt anyone. Her nether region was the only thing still strictly off limits whether she was having a good day or a bad day, but they were going to get past that at some point too.
Summer kissed him back lightly, his lips were so soft, before she listened to his words. “I know,” she continued, obviously in a bit of a playful mood. “Her,” she answered his question as she handed the puppy off to him, the dog struggling as she felt unstable in the air once again. She watched Michael with the puppy, a smile still over her face. She then sat down at the kitchen table, calling Boggart over to put his head in her lap. When he asked about her dog she nodded. “I already introduced them, and got the puppy-proofing stuff if you wanted to know,” she felt the need to add before she continued about the white canine at her feet. “I wouldn’t worry about him, he’ll always be my favorite,” her voice got higher, by the end of her sentence talking to the dog, which had started to wag his tail as she face approached his. Boggart gave her face a single lick before her pulled away. “I’m more worried about me. I mean, you have called me adorable in a very long time,” ok, so she wasn’t suddenly going to forget about her playful attitude? She’d calm it down a little later, when the mood left her she supposed.
“She’s your dog, you name her,” she jokingly snapped back once he asked her about the dog’s name. The dog had come with a really stupid name, she could no longer even remember it really, so for the week Cathleen had kept her she had been affectionately called “puppy.” Obviously, though, she would now need an actual name, which Michael could chose, but she would happily help with if he wanted it. She realized this was also quite a step in their relationship. If they were to ever break up now they would have a dog in between them, but Summer wasn’t planning to break up for any reason. They worked too felt together, were too good of a couple.

It took him a moment to figure out what her words meant, but he was eventually able to catch on. He hadn’t considered anything physical between them for his present, but that wasn’t to say he would be disappointed if that happened to be what it was. Her little treat for him that morning before work was more than he would have expected for that day, but he was always secretly wanting more. He was very attracted to her, after all, but he knew better than to pressure her. Michael had learned that it simply wasn’t wise or fair to expect anything from her just because it was his birthday. There was no point in doing something she wasn’t entirely comfortable with because that would just spoil it altogether. Summer was getting more and more comfortable with certain levels of intimacy and Mike wasn’t exactly deprived of too much so he had little room to complain.
Michael let out a small laugh when she responded to his redundant question. “Oh, well I guess the bow is pretty nice as well…“ he said with a bit of a smirk on his face. He loved catching her in a playful mood because they always managed to have more fun when they were both able to joke around a little. Days like this hadn’t been too frequent when they were dealing with a few large obstacles in their relationship, but lately it seemed like a common thing between them. Things were looking up and he thought they had a lot to look forward to at this point. Of course, there were a few things they still had to get past. Summer’s trial would bring a lot of stress into their lives, especially for Summer, but he hoped they would both be able to stay positive and he planned on giving her all the support she would need from him. Michael had a feeling that once it was all over, life would be easier for the both of them. By that time he hoped to have somewhat smoothed out things with Summer’s parents and he also hoped to be able to accept his parents’ decision to get divorced by that point. He wanted to be free to focus on his relationship with Summer without having to worry about the events that surrounded them.
He nodded as she spoke about having already introduced the dogs. He didn’t imagine it would be a problem, but he was glad she had already confirmed that it wasn’t. His attention was taken off the puppy for a moment when she next spoke. A smile came to his lips as he shook his head slightly. “Hmm…is somebody a little jealous?” he said playfully, holding the puppy’s head up against his cheek as he looked over at Summer. “Don’t worry, you’ll always be my favorite,” he said, reflecting off of what she had mentioned about Boggart being her favorite. Michael agreed that this was a big step for them. They had never had something like this in which they both took ownership of. The dog would have plenty of loving care and Mike really hoped that there would never be any reason for Summer and him to split up. Right now he was feeling very confident about their relationship and after everything they’ve been able to get through it was hard to imagine ever being apart.
When she responded about naming the puppy, he smiled a bit before looking back at the puppy. He thought about it for a while, but it didn’t take him long to come up with a name he thought was suitable. It was fairly simple and perhaps not the most original, but it seemed to fit her. “How about…Molly?” he said, looking over at Summer for a response. He preferred it if Summer liked the name as well since she’d be looking after it quite a bit while Michael was at work and he didn’t want either of them calling the pup a name one of them didn’t like. The puppy began to squirm in his arms a bit so he decided they needed to do something to drain some of the pup’s energy. “Let’s take her to the backyard so she can play a bit,” he said. Once Summer agreed, he lead the way to the small fenced yard at the back of the house. Once they were outside, he set Molly down and allowed her to run around. As soon as her paws touched the ground, she sprinted off into the yard to begin her exploration that Michael was sure would last a few weeks until the puppy was used to all of its surroundings.
Michael sat down in one of the patio chairs they had outside and watched as the puppy romped around in the yard. Molly seemed far more interested in exploring than she was in her owners for the time being. He looked over at Summer with a smile. “So are you done with the surprises? ‘Cause I’m feeling a little overwhelmed right now,” he said, grinning. “I feel like I need to give you something now, but I guess that’s not allowed, right?” he added with a small chuckle. Michael was never big on being the center of attention. He typically enjoyed giving more than he did receiving mostly because he loved seeing the joyful reaction of the people he was gifting, especially Summer. That wasn’t to say he didn’t like his presents. He was really excited about the new puppy and was definitely looking forward to the dinner Summer had prepared. This was certainly one of his better birthdays and he couldn’t think of anyone else he’d rather be spending it with.
After a few more minutes of watching Molly run around, he glanced over at Summer again and patted his knee a couple of times to indicate he wanted her to sit on his lap. The puppy was hardly going to get the majority of Michael’s attention that day, no matter how cute it happened to be. All he could think about while he was at work was how great it was going to be to spend the rest of the day with the woman that he loved on his birthday. “I love you, baby,” he said softly. He could swear he couldn’t go very long without saying it to her, but he always just felt the need to say it at least a couple of times a day. Michael was the type that would leave a message on her phone while she was at an appointment with her therapist just to tell her that he loved her if he happened to forget to say it before he left for work or before she left for her appointment if he happened to have the day off. He had a hopeless romantic in him that would likely never die and so he found himself going out of his way to let her know how much she meant to him, which certainly helped to keep their relationship going strong along with several other factors.

Summer had multiple reasons to be worried about the trial coming up, and one of them was, of course, how her parents would react towards Michael. She really needed all of them to be there with her and she couldn’t imagine how bad it would be if they spent their whole time fighting over little things they all knew wouldn’t change anything. She knew that she shouldn’t be worried about this; she had enough to think about. It had taken her three years to be able to even take the stand against this man and she wasn’t sure she was even ready now, but she couldn’t wait too long. Even if the statute of limitations didn’t run out she was worried that he could do this again or that the longer she put it off the less likely she was to do this. In the end she needed both Michael and her parents to just put their differences aside and help her through this, and she really hoped they would do that for her.
When Michael held the puppy up to his face Summer kept a playful glare on him. “That dog is in my space,” she snapped cutely towards him, blue eyes staring at him sternly, but she had a hard time keeping her mouth from smiling. In the end she ended up laughing, looking at him affectionately as he mimicked her words. Her head turned to look between Boggart and Michael, a questioning look on her face. “He’s fluffier…” she said, jerking her head to her dog and saying the words softly, as if she was scared he was going to be angry with her. She couldn’t keep the look for long before she broke out in a small fit of giggles and shook her head. She had thought about saying Boggart was cuter, but that would be a lie so she kind of just had to pull something out of the air, and that seemed to work well enough. She knew Michael would know she was kidding, even if Boggart meant more to her than she could explain.
“I like it,” Summer said, looking up at both Michael and the newly named Molly from her seat. “She looks like a Molly,” she continued, nodding her head up and down, blonde hair bouncing against her shoulders. She had decided to keep it curly that day, well, and she also didn’t have time to straighten it as she would have liked to. Summer followed Michael outside, calling her own dog her to side as they moved. She also pulled Molly’s bow off her collar so it wouldn’t get caught on anything as she was moving around. She put the ribbon in her jean’s pocket. They both watched as Molly ran off, sniffing around the backyard. Boggart’s first reaction was to go and grab his tennis ball, which Molly had seemed to take interest in but didn’t really seem to care that it had been taken away either. There was too much else to look at. Boggart didn’t seem like the type to share his toys too willingly, but Summer couldn’t see him getting too mean about taking them back either.
Boggart had held his ball for a while. Michael had taken a seat, but Summer kept standing for a little and the white dog brought his toy over to her, dropping it at her feet and backing off, lowering himself slightly to the ground. Summer kicked the ball across the yard and he ran after it, jumping over Molly when she got in his way. Summer had ticked the ball twice when Michael spoke to her. She glanced over her shoulder, grinning slightly. “Except your cake, but I’m sure you knew I’d get you that,” she said, nodding slightly. When she was at the store she went out of her way to make sure she got the best deal. She checked the prices of the small, readymade cakes; it was only going to be for two of them after all. She then checked the prices on the cake mix boxes and everything, and found that just buying the cake was cheaper. She had to admit that she wasn’t yet used to not being able to buy everything she wanted and didn’t exactly like bargain shopping, but she knew she needed to do it and that was a small price to pay to live with Michael.
“Not until our anniversary,” she joked, answering his other question, once again looking over her shoulder flirtatiously. She was really looking forward to that, when she could say they had finally been together for a year. It wasn’t even what he was going to get her or any exciting plans she had for the day. She was excited to be with Michael and, well, let’s face it, proving to all those idiots back at school and their parents that their relationship was going to last. “Or a massage later, I’m really stiff,” her hand came up to her back, pushing against some of the tight muscles and tendons before dropping her hand. She then went back to playing with her dog. He hadn’t gotten too much attention that day.
Summer was still playing with Boggart when she felt Michael’s eyes on her. After one more kick she turned to see what he wanted, which was when he patted his leg. She glanced around to see where Molly was to ensure that he was motioning to her and not his puppy and when she realized it was meant for her she couldn’t help but have a twinge of annoyance sting through her. That was the motion she made when she wanted Boggart to jump onto her lap and a bit of her felt she was being treated like a dog. She opened her mouth to comment on it, but managed to stop herself when she realized he hadn’t meant anything by it. What was he supposed to do? She’d feel even more like she was being controlled if he told her to come here and it wasn’t as if he could ask without it sounding awkward and stupid. Since she gave herself a chance to think about it she realized he hadn’t done anything wrong and she had no right to be annoyed with his movements. Besides, if she didn’t want to all she had to do was shake her head and she was sure he would leave it alone. With this in her head, she closed her mouth and walked over, sitting on his lap as he had requested. She cuddled up to him, pressing the side of her face against his shoulder as she got comfortable where she was.
“I love you too,” she answered him softly, pushing her face against his before giving his cheek a soft kiss. “I’ve gotta be the luckiest girl in the world,” she chimed in, resting her head on his shoulder once again. There wasn’t exactly much room on the patio chair, but she really didn’t mind. The closer she could be to Michael the better. Her hand played with his hair, running her fingers over his face and lips affectionately. “Do you realize how gorgeous you are?” she asked, still playfully. They could get all lovey-dovey for longer later that night, but when she was in a good mood she wanted to take advantage of that because it wasn’t exactly something that was very common recently. “I mean, just look at you. You’re so… amazing,” she leaned back on his shoulder, snuggling against his neck once again. She really felt a little love sick, leaning down and then back up but in a way she guessed she was.

Michael couldn’t help but let out a small laugh when Summer gave a reason for Boggart being her favorite. As long as Boggart was his only competition, he didn’t think he had anything to fret about. Besides, he couldn’t imagine Summer not having her dog at her side. Mike was actually very grateful for Bogg because of how much he had helped Summer to get back on her feet and it was always good to know the dog was there for her when her boyfriend couldn’t be. Sure, perhaps Michael was deprived of some attention now and then because of the mutt, but in the end he really had nothing to complain about. Things were going great between them and he couldn’t think of anything he’d change right now. It just made life easier to know you had someone that would support and love you no matter what. Often times all it took to cheer Michael up when he was having a rough day at work was to hear Summer’s voice over the phone. He wasn’t sure how it managed to get to this point after all that had happened or how he had managed to be so lucky, but he knew better than to question it by now.
He was glad she approved of the name. The less time they took debating on a name for the pup, the better. It was nice knowing what to call her and to get a head start on familiarizing her with the new name. Michael had a grin on his face when he saw Boggart immediately go after his tennis ball. It was apparent that they’d have to get Molly her own toys. Even though Mike couldn’t imagine Boggart making too much of a fuss over Molly playing with one of his toys, it wouldn’t be fair to him if the new puppy hogged all of them. The tennis ball had caught Molly’s attention for a brief moment after Summer had kicked it, but didn’t bother with it once Boggart came charging over to fetch it. There was no use in competing with another canine over twice her size. Of course, once the pup became more comfortable around Boggart and her new family, perhaps she’d be more apt to further explore her many curiosities.
“Wow, a cake too? This is the best birthday ever!” he said with a grin, obviously aware that she would have gotten him a cake, but he felt the need to joke nonetheless. In all honesty, though, this truly was turning out to be the best birthday he had ever had. He had never really felt this special on his birthday. In the past few years, especially in college, he had just thought of his birthday as another day of the year and didn’t think much of it. Sure, he’d get a few gifts and cards, but that was about it. Today, however, Summer seemed to have set her whole day aside just for him and he was definitely grateful for that. He hadn’t expected her to put too much effort into it, mostly because he didn’t want her to feel like she needed to go out of her way to get a gift for him or whatnot, but then again, he should know better. Summer had a big heart and he always felt like he was being spoiled by her because he had never experienced the kind of care and love she showed towards him on a regular basis. They always seemed to be willing to help each other out and do little things for one another, yet they never set their expectations too high which made everything work out perfectly.
When Summer mentioned their anniversary, Michael perked up a bit. For some reason just hearing the word ‘anniversary’ was enough to put a big smile on his face. He had played around with several different ideas in his head for that day, but nothing seemed to be good enough. He wanted it to be extremely special, something they would both remember for a long time to come. It was a whole other holiday for a hopeless romantic like himself and he couldn’t wait for the day when they would celebrate one full year together. It symbolized a lot of accomplishment for them and it strengthened his confidence in their relationship. He never thought he could feel so sure about someone, but now he had found the woman that he simply couldn’t imagine being without and he knew he would always love her no matter what the circumstances happened to be. They got along so well and on the rare days that they didn’t, it never seemed to take long for them to make-up and feel crazy about each other again.
“Sounds good to me,” he replied with a slight nod as well as a grin on his face. Michael never said no to giving her a massage. It wasn’t a chore for him at all and he was more than happy to be able to help her out, even if it was his birthday. She had worked hard to make sure this day was special for him and he couldn’t even begin to show how appreciative he was for everything. After patting his lap for her to come over, he was a little confused over her hesitation, but it didn’t seem to be a matter in the end. He thought it was an innocent gesture, but there was no way of reading what was on her mind. His arms were wrapped around her as soon as she had settled onto his lap.
Michael smiled and looked down modestly when she talked about him being gorgeous. “I guess I may have underestimated myself a little,” he said, looking back up at her with a grin. “But I have to look decent in order to be seen with the most beautiful woman in the world, right?” he said with a grin still on his lips. He kissed her forehead softly and pulled her a little closer to him. He was so glad he was able to simply relax and be at home with Summer after what seemed like an incredibly long day at work. He had been looking forward to this all day and he wasn’t exactly sure how he managed to make it through all of his classes without having too much trouble with his thought process. Sometimes it just became rather difficult to focus on what he was teaching when he had other things on his mind, especially when that other thing was Summer. He got him sidetracked rather easily, but he found ways to concentrate and not be caught daydreaming in the middle of a lecture.
After dinner, Michael insisted on helping with the dishes. Even though it was his birthday, it was difficult for him to just sit back and let Summer do all of the work. He would be much more content with helping out because he hated not being useful when he knew he had the opportunity to do so. Once everything was cleaned up, Michael was curious what else there was for them to do that night. He hadn’t yet seen his cake, which he assumed was being saved for dessert. “That dinner was amazing. Thanks, baby,” he said, feeling the need to show his appreciation for the great meal. It truly was delectable and he would probably consider making the dish himself in the future if he was motivated to do so. “So other than the massage you have scheduled for later, any other plans for tonight?” he asked her, looking over at her as he walked back into the dining room and took a seat at the table to relax. The entire day had been perfect so far. He couldn’t think of anything he would change about it. This was more than he ever could have expected on his birthday and he certainly wouldn’t be quick to forget it.

Summer really didn’t feel like she had done all that much for his birthday. At home, birthdays had always been a big deal and she actually felt she had done very little for him. Cooked his dinner, got him a present, got him a cake, it didn’t seem like all that much to her but if it made him happy that was all that mattered. She didn’t expect much from him on her birthday either. She really would just be happy with Michael just spending some time with her, devoting his day to her or whatever else. Granted, she knew it was difficult since her birthday was so close to Christmas but that wasn’t important either. When they would study Summer’s birthday hardly seemed like a problem compared to everything they had been through already. Neither of them deserved the troubles they had at the beginning of their relationship. By the end of that Summer was sure she would snap at the next person who called Michael a pedophile or who stared at them in an odd way and whispered to their friends just because they were holding hands or something.
Summer smiled when she saw Michael’s expression after the mention of the anniversary. She was also very excited about it and seeing Michael smile at the thought made her so happy because he seemed to be as excited to be with her as she was to be with him and he wanted to celebrate it as well. She wasn’t sure what she wanted to do with it either but she knew it would be a great night if all they did was spend time together and cuddle on the couch after a good dinner. Granted, she couldn’t see Michael doing that. He wasn’t the type to let a special day like that pass them by without doing something, and she wasn’t going to complain about it either. She loved it when he was took care of her and went out of her way to make her happy, and he did it more often than she could ever expect.
Summer winked towards him cutely when he seemed to agree to the idea of the massage. She loved it when he would do that for her, but she was also sure that he didn’t hate it either. He got to touch her in a more intimate way than he often did, unless they were making out or something, which was also something that may happen at some point again tonight. Besides, she was quite sore and stiff. She was starting to think the thought of the upcoming trail was getting to her. She was getting to be more nervous in public again and sudden sounds were beginning to make her jump. She was sure Michael would have noticed but she wasn’t interfering with their home life so she couldn’t see him saying anything about it. She couldn’t see herself being at all nervous around Michael anymore; at least not in the way the trail was making her nervous.
When his arms wrapped around her, she let herself move even closer to him, snuggling in closer than she used to be comfortable with while they could be seen in public eye. She always felt so loved when she was this close to him and she was starting to love that feeling more and more. She felt that their relationship was still going very strong and could never be hurt because Summer found something else she loved about him every day from the way he just sounded like an English teacher when he would use big words and proper grammar to the way he made fun of her cooking. She didn’t think it was possible to meet a man like that and couldn’t believe how much she had settled before she met him. If she knew men could be this perfect she never would have be with any man until she found one that met the standards Michael had set for her.
Summer felt her face go red when he called her beautiful. She allowed the kiss on her forehead before she gently pushed his face away from her, obviously simply being playful with it. “Trying to flatter me, babe?” she said, running a hand through his hair and then down one of his arms. “I could never look as good as you do,” she snuggled closer, so tempted to kiss him. After a few more seconds she had to give into her temptations and she reached up and placed a gentle kiss on his lips. She didn’t want to break the kiss, and for a while didn’t. She allowed the kiss to get more and more intense before remembering where they were. “We… probably shouldn’t do this here,” she let him know after thinking about it for a second, still quite playful with it, letting him know that they may be able to pick it up later. Now, they weren’t very lovey-dovey in public usually, but she didn’t need the neighbors to start thinking they were just a love sick young couple who were only interested in the physical parts of a relationship and it would only be a matter of time before one of them moved out.
Dinner had gone great. She thought it turned out better than anything else she had ever tried to make before, which she was very happy for. Michael deserved a good dinner. He made her dinner every night; he deserved it once a year, right? She was glad he helped with dishes; it wasn’t really something he wanted to do with her time when she could be with him, and the new puppy, who had been sleeping through dinner. When he complimented her on dinner she smiled towards him once again. “Thank Nana, it’s her recipe,” Nana was Summer’s biological grandmother, the only member of her biological family she still had contact with and the two were very close by now as well. “And Cathleen, I would have killed you otherwise,” she joked, pushing hair away from her face.
When he spoke again, Summer glanced over to watch him leave the kitchen. She followed quickly after, her own dog at her heels. “You don’t have to,” she responded about the massage. She didn’t want him to think that she was forcing him into this. “But no, not really. I thought maybe we should wait for the cake, unless you want it now, beyond that… I don’t know,” Summer sat down beside him and moved the chair closer than would be comfortable if they were actually eating. “We could… take Molly for a walk or watch a movie or just do whatever you want, it’s your birthday,” the smile on her face refused to melt away. “I just like spending time with you. I hate it when you have to spend all night grading,” she had to admit, she didn’t like this working thing, but she also knew he had to work and she wouldn’t think it was so bad when she was going back to school she was sure. “Oh! I know, let’s play some basketball. We can tie Molly to Bogg. She has to learn not to run off,” she looked over at the dog, who had woken up and was wandering around the dining room now, sniffing the ground. “I think it would be fun, we haven’t done that in a while and you missed your run this morning,” she teased, a twinkle in her eye. She hoped Michael would rather have the wake up call he got than a run.
